VERY busy which meant service was slow. But the team were lovely and polite. Went during a busy Saturday night so atmosphere was great just didn't feel like they had enough staff they were rushed off their feet. OK food but was a bit cold when it came out. All in all an OK experience

Second time at the botanist , only for cocktails this time and they were all very nice even my garden mojito- which was full of cucumber which I hate. Lovely place for drinks and food - only criticism would be hardly any comfy seating

Well another venue loses on a food order due to piss poor service. Waited for 5 minutes at the bar just to order drinks. Normally that's not an issue, but it was an empty pub. Got our drinks and found a table then went to order food. Well I waited even longer with no sign of anybody. We were both more than ready for a Sunday roast. Luckily there's plenty of choice in Chester. And the drinks are overpriced top. Over a tenner for a pint and a coke.

My wife and I visited The Botanist, Chester tonight. We have eaten here in the past and without any issues. However, tonight we were a bit disappointed. The initial seating, ordering and food was fine. Very nice. Then at the end my wife asked for the bill..nothing. We gave it a good 10-15 minutes and decided to pay on the way out. Then I saw the Bill..I knew roughly what we were paying but I didn't realise the price of the wine..well overpriced for what it was at £37.50 and HALF A PINT of beer at £3.75.. and the most disappointing thing was the service charge of 10%. That equated to over £9 which took the overall bill to £103. Now if you ask me, that's a lot to pay in a quirky pub / restaurant albeit in a city centre. Sorry, but I strongly disagree to automatic service charges at the best of times. You should only pay a tip if you feel the service is upto your expectations and when I say that, I mean you are entirely happy with the whole experience and not waiting around for the bill and sitting in a quirky pub / restaurant surrounding instead of a comfortable restaurant. I noticed the word "discretionary" on the receipt..does this mean we should have been asked if we were happy paying a 10% tip?? Because if that was the case I would have said not. This was a special treat for my wife and I for valentines but it's not special when you're not entirely happy with your evening.

Love the vibe. Food is reasonably priced. Not exactly sure why it's always booked out. The food and kebabs are decent. I'd put it as a better than average pub, but its often booked out days in advance, making some restaurants easier to get a table at...

Called in for a cheeky cocktail whilst exploring the city before brunch, and this place deffently has lots to offer!! The place is very quaint with a bohemian modern vib running through the building, keeping you constantly looking round spotting different things!! Form the suspended motor bike on the ceiling and artworks on the walls. To the layout in general, the place has a very laid back an relaxed vibe. Certainly, it is a place to add to the list of must visit whilst about in Chester. The cocktails them selves weren't rely cheap but at the same time they arnt shy either with the alcohol!! Just glad we were eating after an not before, rather potent 🤣🤣🍹.. We didn't dine in on our visit, but from looking at the menu and seeing a few dishes go by, we would certainly consider this place next time!! Deffently Bob back when in Chester.

Absolutely extortionate drink prices - I nearly fell over. 2 large glasses of wine - £20! Blatant rip off.

Lovely meal with a group of friends, busy on the ground floor but as we were at the top we didn't notice the noise. Update January 2025 Went before a show at the cathedral, lonely meal and food service. Bit cold by the door but then it is winter.

It was just okay. The food was nice not mind blowing but decent. The staff need a bit of an overhaul. They lacked a certain professionalism and when we were asked if we would like water for the table and said yes it never came. Considering you put a service charge on top of the bill I think it's a bit cheeky considering the service was a bit below par. I didn't argue about the service charge despite it being optional, and was never given the chance to remove it. I wouldn't go here again.

I was surprisingly disappointed with our visit to The Botanist in Chester. We've been to other locations and they've been great, and the interior of this location is very nice. However we went for lunch and the service was terrible. We arrived at 13:00 and were seated after a couple of minutes, however we were not given any lunch menus or told what was not available (which we vaguely heard other tables who arrived after us receive). Our drink order was taken 25 minutes later alongside food, even though we tried to flag down a server before this, and what we originally wanted wasn't available as we had not been told about what was out when we sat down. It then took another 20 minutes for our drinks to be delivered (a coffee and a pint of beer). The food arrived about 5 minutes after the drinks and to the kitchen's credit, it was very good (A chicken burger and a regular botanist burger). Our server asked if we wanted any sauces, we asked for ketchup and tap water. The ketchup never arrived, and the water arrived after we had finished the meal. It may well have been just an off day for the server, but seeing as we saw them provide quick service and drink delivery to other tables who arrived after us, I find it difficult to understand why we alone received such poor service. These things happen, but we won't be going back for a meal.

For awful service terrible overpriced and very underwhelming. The owners obviously put money before patrons happiness. Late to sit down over 40 minutes for first drink. Will never return as this was my first night out in Chester not looking to repeat.

The chef’s tasting menu was an adventure of flavors, with each dish more impressive than the last.

Beautiful venue, poor service. Had to ask many times for more water which was forgotten about. Food was fine. Don’t think we would come back due to poor service.

We had work’s Christmas do there on the 15th at 7.30pm and it was very yummy. The kebab had a sauce feature which flows down and coats the kebabs which was a fun feature to see. Food portions were very generous and tasty. It was £35.95 per person for a 3 course meal, which was great! I’d definitely go again. After the meal we also got a scratch card, which was adorable, and a very smart feature to get us to return in January for either 1. Free bottle of Prosecco, 2. Free starter, 3. Free dessert or 4. 25% off. You have to dine in again of course. I’d recommend! Cute place, great food, good portions, no exorbitant prices. Group friendly! We mostly had the turkey kebab which also came with gammon, the roast potatoes were divine! And the vegetables cooked to perfection, soft but still with bite, and the cranberry sauce and gravy were gorgeous, I can’t wait to go again!
